NEW THOUGHT ISN’T NEW!
Have you ever thought, “I’m so glad we are thinking New Thoughts and much more advanced than those Old Fundamental Beliefs?” I have to admit, when I first found New Thought in the 80’s, I was soo excited and really thought it was new, because it was “new to me.” Over the years I have discovered that even Jesus the Master Teacher spoke of these “New Thoughts” to his disciples and anyone who would listen to him. If you remember he stated that he came to abolish the old way of being and to bring in the new thoughts. (That was over 2000 years ago!)

So….. as a Unity Church we have been stepping into some of the same things over the last 2 years. These have been, for the most part gentle shifts – AND – for some of us I am sure that the shifts have been difficult as we have been Letting Go of old ways of being. Whether that means “tables in the sanctuary” or shifts taking place in the Namaste’ Café …. If you were in Wednesday evening class last night, Prof Deb talked to us about the fact that if we are not experiencing the flow, sometimes we have to “SHAKE UP THE ENERGY!” That happens through CHANGE in our lives every day. And then as if by magic, we look around and realize, “I’m ok….actually I am better than ok – and I have established a “new normal.” At that time, it seems like I have been vibrating like this forever. I have tuned into a NEW VIBRATION.

During our services in August, Bea Leff has been sharing some of the writings of Genevieve Behrend. (One of our gentle shifts happening during our Sacred Reading and Meditation time.) In her writings, Genevieve uses some of the thoughts and words of the author, Ralph Waldo Trine. Trine was a philosopher, mystic, teacher and writer of New Thought books and materials in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. His writings had a great impact not only on Genevieve, but also on Charles and Myrtle Fillmore, the founders of Unity.

One of the quotes that moved Genevieve to change her thoughts and her life was:

“Within yourself lies the cause of whatever enters into your life
To come into the full realization of your own awakened interior power, is
to be able to condition your life in exact accord with what you would have it.”

This quote comes from a book, published in London England in 1903 entitled In Tune with the Infinite. Could it be possible that New Thought Isn’t New? How old does something have to be before it becomes the New Normal?

We have spoken many times in classes, workshops and on Sunday mornings that we are “Tuning Into the Flow of the Universe,” just like tuning into a radio station. And when we get on the right channel spirit begins to flow freely and easily. AND – to tune into the right station, we must be willing to let go of the station or the vibration we have been tuned into for years. Jesus the Master teacher stated this concept in a little different way when he told his disciples that to move forward into the new teachings you had to become “New”. “You can’t pour new wine into old wine skins.”

Our Spiritual Community has been tuning into a new vibration or building new wine skins for over the last 2 years. YES – for two years. Why so long? Well, be thankful it wasn’t 40 years of wandering in the wilderness! This Sunday we will be at the place of seeing where part of our “Letting Go” as a spiritual community has led us. Come join us as we step into another Multigenerational Service. Multigenerational means our youth will be an integral part of our Sunday morning experience. Voices of Unity will be our special music; our Youth will be sharing a skit and some powerful affirmations with us. My job is easy this Sunday, I will basically be the Mistress of Ceremony as we celebrate and tie the bow on this gentle shift that has created a powerful force for good vibrations in our community - our own version of Multigenerational.

May the force be with you!
Namaste, Rev. D
